Poor Momma. This is the second day she has been glued to her bed and couch because of a bad stomach flu. She keeps telling us she feels so useless when she is sick. All she wants to do is sleep. We have had such beautiful weather. We only wish she felt better so we could go on our daily walk. For now, we are enjoying curling up next to Momma on the couch and reading some of our favorite blogs.

Peanut Butter and Pumpkin Dog Treats

Peanut Butter and Pumpkin Dog Treats

Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
2 eggs
1/2 cup canned pumpkin
2 tablespoons peanut butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon


Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Whisk together the flour, eggs, pumpkin, peanut butter, salt, and cinnamon in a bowl. Add water as needed to help make the dough workable, but the dough should be dry and  stiff. Roll the dough into a 1/2-inch-thick roll. Cut into 1/2-inch pieces. Bake in preheated oven until hard, about 40 minutes.


So easy to prepare. My dogs love them. This recipe is  simply pawsome on its own, but you might want to make a couple of adjustments though. I think you might want to play around with the baking temps and times. You might want to change the amount of peanut butter and pumpkin used. I did omit the salt. I didn't think the dogs needed it. I will definitely make again and again. Deirdre Rowland

Dog Theft Up By 32% This Year, Says American Kennel Club

Noel's New Year's Resolution

Wow, we have noticed Noel has recently gained weight. Her New Year's Resolution is to lose about 2.0 lbs. She should weight about 5.5 lbs. She is 35% overweight. We are going to try canned organic pumpkin in her kibble. The plain canned variety and not a pumpkin pie filling containing sugars and spices. Pumpkin is a great way to increase fiber. The more fiber your dog consumes, the more satisfied it will be, decreasing its chance of overeating. So we have been told. We will be keeping a weekly journal of her efforts within the next few months. It is always important to talk with your vet before adding anything to your dog's diet. Be sure to ask the appropriate amount to feed your dog. The size of the dog is important to how much to give them daily, as is the state of their tummy.
